The Day My Bird Died

The day she died.
The day she died the day I cryed.
The day she's glad.
The day I'm sad.
The day she died.
I held her close saying this prayer, I cryed.
I'm sad she's glad the day she died.

How to Observe Thanksgiving

Count your blessings instead of your crosses;
Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your smiles instead of your tears;
Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth;
Count on God instead of yourself.

The Wise Woman and the Pit

On a rainy day of washed out greys,
An old woman sits on her front porch rocking away.

As I walk along my mind lost somewhere,
she asks me to come and rest by her chair.

I tell her I am on my way to church to pray,
She smiles and says, 'God answers in his own time and way.'

We talk for hours in idle chatter,
I explain my life seems worthless and nothing matters.

She says 'Travel down the road a mile or so.'
'You will find my sister, you can't miss her glow.'

I wander along my mind deep in thought,
'How can she teach me what others have not?'

I look up at that moment and see sister 'Fear',
She smiles softly, and whispers 'Come closer my dear.'

'I will walk you through if you think it will matter,
but I must tell you I am too old and tired to be your step ladder.'

As I hear these words the earth opens wide,
I fall in a dark pit, way down inside.

I look all around and say with a snicker,
'Look at me here with no drugs and no liquor.'

I try to climb out, but it is a trap.
For ever step forward I fall two steps back!

I rest for a moment, my mind starts to clear.
I realize the truth they have spoken fell deaf on my ears.

I reach out my hand and extend my arm,
I feel the strength of 'Fears' finger tips pull me from harm.

She looks in my eyes, I look away.
She says boldly, 'It won't work your way.'

'You need the Glory of God and the strength of the masses,
Then the light will shine as the darkness passes.'
